How to Make a Lover’s Knot

The lover's knot

I didn’t even know there was a Lover’s Knot! You learn something new every day.

I received a question from a reader recently. Alex wrote me asking,

I was wanting to make a lover’s knot for my girl friend. I have looked everywhere and was wondering if you had any advice.

I thought that was so sweet. It’s been a long time since I’ve dated, but it brought back fond memories of young love for me. I’ve been off the market for a good 15 years now at least (gosh darn is it that long?) and I love my hubby to bits, but the beginning part of dating… There’s nothing like it.

Until all the irritation starts of course. Or was that just my experience?

But I digress.

The Lover’s Knot. Yes that’s where I was.

Isn’t it beautiful? This image is from Seawear.com. They sell nautical knot jewelry. Pretty cool.

So I told this sweet Alex that I’ve never made a lover’s knot, but I found this page with a lover’s knot making diagram.

Aaaah young love… Or maybe Alex is a grown man! I never thought of that until now. Funny, I keep forgetting I’m wearing Christine-colored glasses….

Maybe Alex meant crochet? Naah. But I like crochet. These are another kind of lover’s knot I didn’t know about.

Michelle crocheted this lovely shawl with Eskimo by Garnstudio which is a bulky yarn. She stopped by to pick up some more yarn to finish a second one she started.
  • Sensual Shawl in Lover’s Knot: The shawl is made with the cotton yarn and the lovers’ knot - ideal for the beach cover up or during the cooler summer evenings. What I love about this project is how sensual it looks on the female body. The neutral color (ecru) goes with any outfit.
